Wings of Venice
EXCERPT FROM “STORY OF THE WINGS OF VENICE 2003 – 2006”
“Wings of Venice” is a sculptural, monumental and conceptual project.
This contemporary work is a technical and artistic challenge: a massive bird first appeared in the heart of Venice, at the entrance of the “Serenissima”, the Punta della Dogana (…) confirms and glorifies glass as being pure and authentic art material.
The Artist is the head and the Glass master is the arm. A synergetic exchange almost istinctive, but aimed at obtaining true work of art. (…)
A winning challenge was considering dimensions, wind, wave motion, running water, high tide and changing temperature.
Here Murano glass will be on show to the world, upheld by a stainless steel structure that adorned and elated it, will prove to be a worthy exponent of the best of international art and design whilst keeping its own individual characteristics.
Total length: m. 15.35. Overall height: m. 6.52. Weight: kgs. 10,400 (kgs. 8,000 glass, kgs. 1,600 stainless steel and kg. 800 structural sealant).
